In March, Peter Arturi told me he planned to stop practicing law by the end of 2015 and “find something else to occupy my time.” We’ll, he’s ahead of schedule. Peter announced in mid-July that he’s pulled the ripcord. Having worked for many years in law firms and as in-house counsel at Calloway Golf and Spalding Sports Worldwide, he’s now looking for a more creative workstyle. (Sound familiar?) While remaining a consultant to a Danbury, CT, law firm, he would like to apply his many years of experience in both law and business strategy to a new venture. If you’re looking for an expert in intellectual property rights, licensing and assessing legal risk in a consumer products business, you know who to call.
Meanwhile, on the ice and in the garden...
During winter months, Peter is dedicated to coaching youth hockey. Last season, he devoted 3-4 days a week to the rink and his two teams, a Pee-Wee team (ages 11-12) and a Squirt team (9-10). Now that the ice has thawed, he’s focusing on his next career strategy – while playing golf, pulling weeds and walking his crazy poodle. I’m sure he’s supervised in the garden by his wife Denise, a Jedi gardener. She runs the local community garden, Peter tells us, and raises 2,000 lbs. of organic produce each season to help feed others in the community.
Click these thumbnails for more on Peter's "leisure" strategy -- coaching two hockey teams (Peter's standing in the back row), playing golf in Scotland with brothers Perrin (H’82), Phil and Parrish, more golf at Pebble Beach with pals, and the skiing the mountain peaks in Telluride with the fam.
Meanwhile, sons Toby and Sam are thriving in the film business and restaurant management, in New Orleans and Lake Tahoe. As Peter observes, this provides “some great places to go when we visit our kids”!
Peter Arturi and his wife Denise are mainly XC skiers, but here’s a recent exception — a downhill vacation in Squaw Valley last February. That's their son Sam on the left. Next is Peter, Sam's girlfriend Nikki holding Timmy the Wonder Dog, Denise and their son Toby. According to Peter, "Sam is a big snowboarder and now lives in Bolton, VT about 200 feet from the base of a lift. Toby boards when he can, although he lives in Brooklyn. Denise and I downhill ski only a few times a year (usually when visiting Sam, who has lived in Telluride and Lake Tahoe the past three ski seasons), but we love to XC ski.
